BBQ Cook-Off Ends in Tear Gas

It wasn’t the onions that were making them cry. A police officer was suspended from duty after throwing a canister of tear gas at his opponents during a Bar-B-Que cook-off. According to the Houston Chronicle, the officer overshot a bit, landing the canister into a tent “occupied by several military veterans including some amputees in wheelchairs.”

Held at the annual rodeo, any team that enters the BBQ competition must provide two uniformed security guards. It is unclear why the officer decided to lob the tear gas but rodeo officials say he has been “removed from his volunteer duties on the rodeo’s calf scramble committee.”
