At 84, Brooklyn Man Strikes Board Game Gold

After 80 inventions, George Weiss finally found one that stuck. The New York Daily News interviews 84-year-old Weiss in today’s paper about the success of his new board game, Dabble. The premise of the game, which was just named the best of 2011, is to create a word of two, three, four, five or six letters from a pile of 20 in front of you. To win, the leftover tiles of the other players are added up. Weiss says he got his first patent back in 1958 but it wasn’t until Dabble made its debut that success found him. Apparently, no one was interested in his “convertible Christmas ornament, the ‘Do It Your Shelf’ artistic storage system” or the “cube card” he pitched to Hallmark.
