Apple Presses Pause on Concert iPhone Recordings

I’m begging you, Apple: please don’t become my nanny.

Apple is working on a way to permanently press pause on your iPhone camera says the San Francisco Chronicle.

According to the Daily Mail, the company is developing software to will disable a smartphone if and when its owner tries to tape a concert, a sports event or any type of proprietary event. The software would pick up infra-red sensors installed at the venue in question, which would temporarily disable the iPhone’s camera function.

The company has already filed for a patent in anticipation of the software. Insiders say it’s a shrewd move that is likely to put Apple in the good graces of recording companies, a position that will be beneficial when it renegotiates its licensing contracts. Other software innovations in the pipeline include something called iKey, which will enable its user to unlock a dock with the swipe of an iPhone, and anti-sexting software that the company hopes will become popular with parents, celebrities…and certain former members of Congress.

I thought it fitting, since Apple is flirting with the idea of becoming Big Brother, to post its iconic “1984” commercial:
