Anti-Immigration Law Spawns Arizona Boycott

Written by Pat's Papers | Tuesday, 27 April 2010 10:39 AM

Arizona’s tough new immigration law continues to make headlines this morning. The LA Times says it provided a push for the Obama administration, which, in its wake, has renewed its efforts for national immigration reform. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Bay Area supervisors have called for a “sweeping boycott of Arizona” due to the controversial policy, including ending all contracts with Arizona-based companies. Similarly, the Houston Chronicle says the Mexican government has issued a travel alert advising its population to steer clear of the state. And the Arizona Republic says the online reaction to its anti-immigration law has showed the state what “it’s like to be unpopular in a social-media era in which protesters can organize at the drop of a tweet.”

On the Web

I was surprised to come across a column in support of Arizona’s anti-immigration bill in today’s LA Times. And then I saw it was written by Jonah Goldberg. The National Review contributing editor calls the law “ugly but necessary.”
