Why Did the Congressman Take Off His Shirt?

Written by Pat's Papers | Tuesday, 10 May 2011 7:31 AM

Most politicians hope and pray that the topless photos they took in their youth don’t surface. So when Illinois Rep. Aaron Schock appeared, shirtless, on the cover of Men’s Health this month, the Washington Post had to ask the inevitable: why did he do it? More specifically, the paper asks (tongue not in cheek, because it’s his hometown) how Schock’s ab portrait will play in Peoria.  The conservative congressman says he posed for the shoot because he wanted to promote a “fit lifestyle” in the midst of the country’s health-care crisis.

The Chicago Tribune notes that President Obama was the first politician to appear in Men’s Health, though he kept his shirt on both times.

Schock also announced his “Fit for Life Summer Challenge,” “an easy weight-loss plan than can help you drop 10, 20, even 30 pounds or more by Labor Day and get in the best shape of your life.”
