10K for a Car? Not Anymore

Written by Pat's Papers | Monday, 18 April 2011 6:17 AM

Remember when “The Price is Right” had to add another digit to its car-pricing games, bringing the total from four to five? Until now, there have been a few cars hanging in there at four digits. That, however, may be about to change. USA Today says Nissan’s bare-bones Versa has been sold at $9,990 since 2009. This year’s model, which will be unveiled on Wednesday, could close the chapter on the days of the $10,000 car. Even if Nissan decides not to raise the price off the bat, with shipping costs the Versa’s price tag dips over the $10,000 threshold; its competition in the bare-bones category, a $9,985 Hyundai Accent, is also expected to jump above the $10,000 mark.
