This is a Stick-Up, By Smartphone

This is a Stick-Up, By Smartphone

Robbing a bank? There’s an app for that. The Sun Sentinel says Florida police arrested a man who used his smartphone to type a “stick-up note.” The man is suspected of several other robberies, though he used an old-fashioned note for those. So why the new method? Opines the police chief: “Maybe there was an issue with his handwriting.”

Mark Zuckerberg Addresses Facebook Woes

Mark Zuckerberg sat down to talk about Facebook’s woes in San Francisco yesterday, reports the Chronicle. It was his first public address since taking his company public earlier this year. Zuckerberg told the crowd that Facebook’s shoddy stock performance has “undermined staff morale” but that they are looking ahead and see a future in mobile. He blamed Facebook’s stumble on a dependence on HTML5 apps for mobile devices instead of writing code specifically for mobile operating systems.

Opinion: “Likability Trap”

Kathleen Parker writes a column in this morning’s Washington Post asking why we must “like” our potential presidents? Shouldn’t our main concern be their qualifications? Kicking the Soda Habit

Tomorrow is the day New York Mayor Bloomberg’s supersize-soda ban is expected to pass the Board of Health. In anticipation, the New York Post challenged seven readers to “kick the soda habit” and today, they print three pages of profiiles of people who lost significant weight just by curbing their soda drinking ways. Pretty impressive.

Great photo on the front page of the Tribune this morning. It’s day three of the Chicago teacher’s strike—but not everyone is worried about a resolution. These kids seem to be enjoying their extended summer vacation with a day at the beach.
