Strict New Fuel-Economy Rules Announced

The federal government released new fuel-economy and carbon-emission standards yesterday, which are some of the strictest since emissions were first regulated in 1970 reports USA Today this morning. 54.5 miles per gallon is the standard automakers must hit by 2025. Currently, the standard is 29.7 mpg.

Public restrooms have historically been places for “trash-can fires, furtive needle activity, commercial lovemaking, emergency baths, laundries for the homeless, and repositories of castoff diapers” says the LA Times. But not the Portland Loo. The solar-powered public toilet is graffiti-proof and almost impossible to destroy and now the Oregon officials are trying to sell their brand to other cities.

Who cleans up after all those animals at the State Fair? In Minnesota, it’s a company called “Doody Calls.”  In all, animals (and apparently some humans) generated more than 3,000 tons of manure at last year’s fair. The Minneapolis Star Tribune says it’s a growing industry, full of pun-tastic company names:  Dr. Poolittle, Turd Nerds, the Doo Crew, Pooparazzi, Treasure Hunters and Doo Process, to name a few.

The New York Daily News takes a look at a new book, which makes the claim that Osama bin Laden was actually dead before the Navy SEAL raid on his compound in Pakistan. Written under a pseudonym by a former SEAL, the book says when SEALs found bin Laden he was already dead, from a bullet wound to the head.
