Pricier Orbitz Offerings For Mac Users
According to the Wall Street Journal, Orbitz displays pricier hotels to Mac users than it does to PC users. That doesn’t mean the same hotel is more expensive—just that the first screen or two of offerings may be upmarket on a Mac based on predictions about how Mac owners spend. Orbitz confirmed that the strategy is a new one and says customers can always choose to rank listings by price.
Opinion: Arizona Immigration Ruling Not a Win
Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Roberts says Governor Jan Brewer is living in “the state of Denial” if she thinks yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling on Arizona’s controversial immigration policy was a win. Roberts reminds us that the the Department of Homeland Security revoked the right of Arizona state and local police to act as immigration agents, which means police must call call the Feds if they want to determine someone’s immigration status during a routine stop. She asks, “how likely are feds to come running when the cops call in a jaywalker who is here illegally?”
Opinion: Reege and Kathie Lee? Bad Idea
NBC is floating the idea of Regis joining Kathie Lee in the fourth hour of the “Today” show if co-host Hoda Kotb moves up to take over for Anne Curry. It might seem like a good idea, he writes, but “NBC is in trouble if its best idea for a morning show is to recycle a program that ended 12 years ago.”

Back in 2007, Henry Marin was a contestant of Fox’s short-lived reality show about LAPD recruits called “The Academy.” He was kicked off for flunking two role-playing exercises. Yesterday, he flunked a different kind of test, says the LA Times, when he was caught trying to deliver a heroin-stuffed burrito to an inmate. His attorney is insisting Marin had no idea the burrito was filled with drugs.
Facebook Elects Woman to Board
Facebook has elected a woman to its board, reports the LA Times this morning. After facing criticism for its all-male board, Mark Zuckerberg announced yesterday that the company’s COO Sheryl Sandberg would join as its eighth member. The Times points out that most of Facebook’s 901 million users are women, and that only 11 percent of Fortune 500 companies had male-only boards, according to a survey last year.

“Grunt-o-Meter” Coming to Tennis
As Wimbledon gets underway, tennis is developing a “grunt-o-meter” as the first step in enforcing a plea for female players to keep their grunts and shrieks to a minimum. USA Today says the plan has several elements, including the “development of a handheld device — a kind of Hawk-Eye for noise — for umpires to objectively measure on-court grunting levels.”
