Toddler Eats Grandma’s Pot Cookies

A three-year-old California boy ended up in the hospital over the weekend after eating a plate of his grandma’s cookies. Excuse me, his grandma’s pot cookies. The Riverside Press-Enterprise says the grandma, who has been diagnosed with cancer, was prescribed marijuana by her doctor. The boy’s family called 911 after they found cookie crumbs in the garage and the toddler still asleep after a 20-hour nap.

Obesity researchers are exploring a new demographic—thin people—says the Washington Post, in the hopes of finding clues as to why some of us get fat while others stay effortlessly thin. Unfortunately, it seems to more of a genetic thing than a willpower thing. But researchers say their initial findings have indicated that the role of brown fat and colder temperatures might work its way into the equation.

Just days after his marriage to yoga instructor Hilaria Thomas, Alec Baldwin has divorced Twitter…again. The New York Daily says the “30 Rock” actor signed off for good yesterday, sending one last message—“It’s been fun.”—before canceling his account. The last time Baldwin broke up with Twitter was following his “Words with Friends” dustup on an American Airlines flight.

Europe’s Tourist Attractions Seek Corporate Sponsors

Here’s an interesting consequence of the financial trouble in Europe: no one is paying for maintenance of the region’s tourists sites. As a result, the Washington Post says governments are turning to corporate sponsors to help maintain their national treasures. In France, two hotels have signed deals to open up on the grounds of Versailles. And Italian officials are taking bids—$187,000 a month—for billboards on the Milan Cathedral.

Illinois Slips in Beer-Swilling Rank

The Chicago Tribune prints some worrisome statistics in today’s paper. According to the latest data available, Illinois has slipped down the list of states by per-capita beer consumption. Taking in only 51 six-packs a year, the state is now 28th in the rankings. Tiny New Hampshire claimed the top spot, taking in about 76 six-packs last year.
