Reports Calls Lance Armstrong Ringleader

Reports Calls Lance Armstrong Ringleader

The ugly Lance Armstrong details are out. A report just released by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency calls Armstrong the ringleader of “the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program [cycling] has ever seen.”  The Austin American-Statesman says much of the report has been on the record for years but that six active cyclists had come forward to finger Armstrong.

Levi Leipheimer: Why I Doped

Levi Leipheimer: Why I Doped

Lance Armstrong’s teammate Levi Leipheimer takes to the opinion page of the Wall Street Journal to explain, for the first time, why he doped. He writes: “Until recently—or maybe even until today—when people thought about doping, they thought about a guy, by himself, using banned substances to get ahead. What people didn’t realize…was that doping was organized and everywhere in the peloton. Doping wasn’t the exception, it was the norm.”

Security Reduced Before Libya Attacks

Security Reduced Before Libya Attacks

The Wall Street Journal says the State Department reduced its security in Libya in the weeks before the attack that killed four Americans, including the Ambassador. The news came out during a “politically charged congressional hearing” yesterday, where former security officials testified that the State Department’s decision to replace US security guards with Libyan staff was a controversial and ill-advised one.

Britishisms Invade America

Britishisms Invade America

“Crikey,” says the New York Times—it seems as though we’ve been invaded by the British language.  Coining it “Anglocreep” and declaring it annoying, the Times says “snippets of British vernacular — ‘cheers’ as a greeting, ‘brilliant’ as an affirmative, ‘loo’ as a bathroom —  are cropping up in the daily speech of Americans who often have no more direct tie to Britain than an affinity for ‘Downton Abbey.’”

Pleats For Men Back in Style

Pleats For Men Back in Style

Pleats are (allegedly) back in fashion for men. The Wall Street Journal asks whether men will be able to make the switch back, after finally learning to love front-flat pants. The new generation of pleats are less conspicuous than their predecessors—usually just one on each leg, instead of the standard two.

Space Shuttle’s Path an Endeavor

Space Shuttle’s Path an Endeavor

Getting the Space Shuttle Endeavor to its home at the California Space Station will be quite an…endeavor. The LA Times has a great diagram of the twists and turns the shuttle will have to take as it navigates through city streets. Though it will be moving at a maximum speed of 2 mph, the Endeavor is five stories high and weighs 170,000 pounds.

Man Needs Ride, Steals Ambulance

Man Needs Ride, Steals Ambulance

Who needs a cab when you have an ambulance? The Chicago Sun-Times says a 77-year-old man was taken into custody after he was pulled over driving a stolen ambulance. When asked what we was doing in the stolen vehicle, the man replied that he needed a ride home. Apparently, no one at the hospital had offered him one, so he improvised.
