App Industry Hits $25B
The apps industry is exploding, says the Wall Street Journal this morning. There are more than 700,000 apps for sale in Apple’s marketplace, and it’s believed that people spend around two hours a day plugged into at least one app. Expected to hit $25 billion in global revenue this year, one analyst likens the industry to “cars at the turn of the last century.”
Teens: Facebook is Like, Over
Facebook is like, so over. Or so say the teens of the world. The social networking company has even admitted that “teen engagement” is down across the site. The San Francisco Chronicle says teenagers have turned their attention to more intimate sites like Instagram and Snapchat, where one can share photos and personal information with a smaller group of close friends.
Child Cured of HIV For 1st Time
Doctors at the University of Mississippi say they have cured a baby born with HIV, reports the Clarion Ledger this morning. It’s the first time doctors have made such a claim and they credit a staff pediatrician with using an unusually aggressive treatment. Dr. Hannah Gay says she began treating the infant within 30 hours of birth and continued until child was 18 months old. Now two-and-a-half years old, the child has a healthy immune system.
Ashley Judd’s Next Role: Senator?
The front page of USA Today is dedicated to Ashley Judd this morning, and her possible decision to senate run. Judd hasn’t let on either way, but the rumor mill in Kentucky is buzzing with the possibility that the Democratic actress will make a bid for Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s seat in 2014.
TSA: Check All Sex Toys Over 7 Inches
The TSA has offered up some specifics for those who travel with adult toys through airport security. I don’t know how they arrived at this number. But the New York Post reports that toys in excess of seven inches long should travel in your checked baggage rather than your carry on. Personal lubricants are okay in your carry on, as long as they’re under the 3.4-ounce mark and stored in a plastic baggie.
