VIDEO: Got Fries? Ketchup Accident Snarls Traffic

The Reno Gazette-Journal has a VIDEO of red carnage splashed all over the highway after a truck crashed outside the city. But it’s not blood—it’s ketchup. The truck was carrying thousands of bottles of ketchup, so many that snowplows had to be brought in to clean up the mess.  The first police officer on the scene described it this way: “I have red everywhere on the highway—no bodies, no people, just ketchup.”

Hybrid Car Mileage May Be Lower Than Advertised

There’s a story on the front page of USA Today this morning about how hybrid car mileage ratings may be wrong. In the wake of a Consumer Reports article that said highway mileage in Ford’s fusion and crossover hybrids was closer to 37 mpg than the advertised 47, the EPA is evaluating how the industry rates its mileage.

(Video) Viral Harlem shake Looks Nothing Like Original

The New York Times says the “Harlem Shake” is back but the viral videos look nothing like the dance that inspired them. Ever since music producer Bauer’s version hit the Billboard Hot 100, the craze has created more than 200,000 YouTube videos—including a puppy version, a grandma version, and a stripper version. The original credit goes to a man named Al B., who died back in 2006, a skinny guy who was known around the neighborhood for his “frenetic, technical” dance moves.

“Dennis and the Menace” is the New York Post’s headline for a photo of former NBA star Dennis Rodman sitting courtside with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Rodman is in North Korea to shoot an episode of an HBO series, which is airing next month. He told the 29-year-old Kim, “you have a friend for life,” before sitting down to watch some basketball

Imagining a Post-Bundle World

Readers are asked to image a “post bundle world” on the front of the Wall Street Journal business section. Basically the question is, will viewers be better off if cable companies sell more channels “a la carte.” Industry experts say without the bundle requirement, companies would be free to offer smaller, lower-priced packages that cater to very specific types of people. Programmers argue the larger customer base delivered by the bundles helps them to pay for top-quality content.

LA Builds Parks to Fight Sexual Offenders

Los Angeles is building what may be its smallest park. At one-fifth of an acre, it can barely hold two jungle gyms, says the LA Times. But that’s not the point—the point is to force a group of sexual offenders who live near the new park to move. The Times says the city’s strategy to use parks as a weapon against sexual offenders—state law says they can’t reside without 2,000 feet of one—has some wondering if the plan violates the offenders’ constitutional rights.

There’s an awesome photo on the front page of the Chicago Tribune this morning of Pope Benedict XVI’s farewell to the Vatican. That’s him in a helicopter getting a lift past St. Peter’s Basilica on his way to the papal summer villa outside Rome.
