Walk the New York Way

Attention Tourists: We have a city to run here, so get out of the fast lane. A mystery line has been drawn in the sidewalk. The New York Post says one side is marked, “New Yorkers,” and the other, “Tourists.” Some anonymous artists divided a section of Fifth Avenue with a white line down the middle of the sidewalk between 22nd and 23rd streets.  There’s been no claim of responsibility for the sidewalk statement but there’s already some evidence that it may not work to clear the sidewalks of aimlessly walking tourists. Says a man who works near the new division street: “The New Yorkers walk by, but the tourists stop and look.”  I bet they took some pictures too.

I don’t want people to think I don’t love having tourists here, I do. But the fact that vacations apparently impair one’s ability to traverse a street correctly doesn’t, unfortunately, excuse us from our daily deadlines and responsibilities.
