Bring Your iPad Back to the Future

Written by Pat's Papers | Friday, 13 August 2010 9:22 AM

I think this is probably the best example of ‘back to the future’ I’ve seen. It’s an iPad dock that turns your tablet into a retro-looking TV. I saw it Daily News this morning, who saw it on a design website called Design Mind.

It was created by a guy named Jonas Damon, who used an old fruit box to make the dock. He got all the details right, including that bump on the back and he even has his screen saver set to the black-and-white static you used to see when channels went off the air.

Damon says technology has allowed product designers great freedom to mess with iconic shape because what used to be necessary (the bump, which housed cathode ray tubing) has all been replaced by microchips. Damon says his TV-Pad is for personal use but that if demand is big enough, he would consider selling the contraption. Seems like it could be a good business I can already picture an iPod 8-track player.
