Stores Should Be Closed on Thanksgiving

Written by Pat's Papers | Wednesday, 24 November 2010 6:36 AM

Stores should be closed on Thanksgiving to allow people to spend time with their families. This is something I rant about this every year. And clearly I’m fighting a losing battle. But I was newly annoyed upon reading an article in USA Today this morning. Both Sears and K-Mart justify their Thanksgiving Day hours with a feeble quote from a spokesman about customers expressing a desire to have an extra day to shop.

Really? People need another day to shop?

I have one simple piece of advice: if you agree with me, that Thanksgiving is a time to be with family—and that includes the employees of Sears and Kmart—then don’t shop on Thursday. If the stores are empty they won’t open next year.
