Starbucks: Where No One Knows Your Name

My NY1 colleague Jamie Shupak tipped me off to a great series of photos her friend Marni Kupfer has been tweeting.

Marni is a frequent visitor to Starbucks. And as any frequent visitor to Starbucks knows, when you order a fancy drink they typically ask you to give your name so they can summon you to the barista’s counter when your order is ready.

Here’s something else frequent Starbucks visitors know: the name you give is rarely the name you receive back. Pat comes out at Tad. Jim turns into Tim. Our colleague Margaret became Margrit this morning. And Marni has now learned to listen for the name “Marty” when she’s waiting for her coffee.
