Rita Cosby Joins Me on “The Ride Home”

When I joined WABC Radio in January as host of a new 5 pm show, we began a search for my co-host. The search played out on the air in a series of on-air auditions that turned out to be a lot like dating.

The array of broadcasters who agreed to join me was impressive. And now, more than four months later, that journey has ended. I’m excited to report that earlier today Cumulus and 77WABC announced that Rita Cosby is joining me as my permanent co-host on “The Ride Home.” As I told the New York Daily News this afternoon, it’s an easy pairing because we both come from an intense daily news background. We knew her background at Fox News Channel and MSNBC made her a strong candidate. But chemistry is hard to predict. So it wasn’t until the first time she was on as a guest co-host that we truly knew she was a contender

We’ve already hosted together many times as part of the audition process. (Like the show with Nurse Jackie star Stephen Wallem, pictured above.) But I’m looking forward to moving the show into its next phase starting on Wednesday, when Rita makes her debut. Our guests on Wednesday include New York police commissioner Bill Bratton and Martha Stewart, who joins us to talk about small business.

My sincere thanks to everyone who made time to join me in the auditions. It’s basically a job interview in public and can be a stressful process. And thanks to Rita for working so hard to rise to the top. I’m looking forward to a long run (ride?) together!

The Ride Home is on 77WABC Radio from 5 to 6 pm each weeknight. You can listen online at WABCradio.com.
