Pat’s Vancouver Photos - part 2

More of my favorite photos from the Winter Olympics. We got lucky with the weather and were up in Whistler for two perfect sunny days.

After seeing the women’s downhill (and having a fantastic ski day before and after) we happened to arrive at the CTV Whistler stage as Lindsay Vonn was being interviewed about her gold-medal run.

Whistler is known as a laid-back place. And even with the serious Olympic security that attitude prevailed. The people on the other side of the scanner got caught smuggling in a flask of booze to the luge event. The officers told them they had two choices: dump it or drink fast.

There was no public space without big screen TVs set up for fans to gather around. And about 3/4 of those fans had purchased Team Canada gear to show their allegiance.

The one symbol of the games the IOC couldn’t easily restrict was the inukshuk. The traditional Inuit marker was borrowed by Vancouver 2010 organizers and reproduced in every form imaginable. Thomas Haas did a brisk business in chocolate inukshuks.

Dozens of stone inukshuks were built on the banks of False Creek in Vancouver.

One of the many Vancouver 2010 volunteers led us to the bus to Whistler.
