I was at a Canadian Consulate event in New York this week to mark the 30th anniversary of the “Canadian Caper.” The guest of honour was Ken Taylor, the former Canadian ambassador to Iran who got six American diplomats to safety in the midst of the US embassy hostage situation. The conversation turned to his work as a spy and the story’s “Hollywood” ending.

I’ve been reading stories this morning about a possible expansion of a safety system Toyota is proposing for its cars. But Toyota and the wire copy keep calling it a “brake override” system. That’s a ridiculous name.

My producers at NY1 let me wear my Team Canada shirt for the top of our sports report after our 3-2 gold-medal win over Team USA last night. But they got the last word with some on-screen graphics.

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams spent the past two weeks in Vancouver. He posted a great thank you note on his blog as his time in the Olympic city wrapped up. He wrote: “Before we leave this thoroughly polite country, the polite thing to do is leave behind a thank-you note.”
